Sisir Saras 2016, the Annual National level exhibition of rural Handicraft and Handloom products, will be held at Exhibition Ground Bhubaneswar from 1st to 13th Jan 2016. The fair is organized by Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS), Odisha Livelihoods Mission, Panchayati Raj Department and sponsored by Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.
Such exhibitions are instrumental in providing market linkage to rural artisans who are struggling to find a better market and remunerative price for their products. ORMAS has been hosting exhibitions under the banner of Sisir Saras, Gramshree Mela and Pallishree Mela across the country to provide a platform for rural artisans to showcase and sell their products besides interacting with urban consumers to facilitate better trade ties.
A large number of rural craftsmen and Self Help Groups are participating in the event. Apart from Odisha, artisans from 25 other States are showcasing their products.
The special attraction of the exhibition last year (SISIR SARAS 2015) was the metal work products from Madhya Pradesh, wood crafts from Tamil Nadu, bamboo crafts from North-East States, Madhubani paintings from Bihar, Dhokra from Chhattisgarh, shawls and carpets from Jammu and Kashmir and kantha stitch from West Bengal. Workshops on designing and packaging of products was also organised for artisans to enhance the marketability of their products.
